ITFA Mentorship Scheme 2019

As you may know, one of the flagship initiatives of the ITFA Young Professionals programme is the Martin Ashurst Trade Finance Mentorship Scheme. This scheme adds significant value to the industry as we get some of the more experienced members of our market to generously share their knowledge and insight with those with less experience, and even with those aspiring to join the market (students, professionals from other industries, etc). By fostering this interaction we ensure that the industry is adequately portrayed for its qualities and that (aspiring) professionals are given an opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of the different areas and potential career paths.

Our 2018 intake saw 38 mentor/mentee pairings, which was a record. This year we are expecting even more engagement, as the scheme gained notoriety amongst our members and also given the positive feedback we received from those who took part. This is a truly global programme, with the geographical spread of mentors and mentees reflecting ITFA’s remit as the global trade finance industry body.

This is a renewed call for your help in finding mentors and mentees within your organisation. We would be keen to hear from both experienced trade financiers (regardless of background and specialisation) who would be considered to become mentors, and also from less experienced professionals (again, regardless of background or current role), who could be interested in finding out more about the trade finance industry.

The scheme will run for a longer period this year (6 months) to give mentors and mentees more time to interact. Although we provide guidance on how the interaction could take place, the scheme is intended to be very flexible to cater for the specific needs of those involved.

Grateful if interested mentors and mentees could express their interest to Duarte Pedreira by sending an email to duarte.pedreira@crownagentsbank.com by Friday 25 January.
